Animal Husbandry is fast changing the economy of rural agrarian society and in turn contributing significantly in state economy. The traditional subsistence level of Animal Husbandry is fast changing as Animal Husbandry industry status in U.P. Livestock provide increased economic stability to the poor masses and households activity as cash buffer in case of small stock, and a captive reserve in case of larger stock. Animal Husbandry generate immense employment potential in the field of livestock rearing, livestock produce processing and marketing. Animal Husbandry contributes 9% of the total net domestic income in U.P.
 The cattle not only produce milk, but also they contr
ibute to the draft power for tillage, cartage and other operation. In the state the land holdings are small and thus mechanisation is not fully possible. So for small agricultural activities the tillage and draft power of bullocks is of great value. In the country a draft equivalent of 47,000 megawatts is produced by 71.5 million working bullocks and 7.5 million working buffalo bullocks. The value of draft contribution is estimated to be higher than the Railway goods transport system.
Meat, hide and wool form a major part of export and has an immense export potential.
Cow dung is a natural soil nutrient and contribute towards organic manure in a substantial manner.
